Letter to 73 GAP - University of Peradeniya

Good morning everybody!
Honourable guests, my sisters and brothers, visitors!
It’s privilege to be with you all and having opportunity to address this gathering to celebrate forty fifth anniversary of 1973 batch at the University of Peradeniya. I’m so proud to been with this young group of graduates during the period of 1973 - 1976.
Entering the University of Peradeniya will become a turning point of student’s life. It helped us to move the mountains which were immovable. There are so many accesses to numerous pathways to move and breakthrough our lives. I would say quoting Late British Prim Minister Margaret Thatcher, “there is no glass ceiling may not be shattered”.
Most of us have come from ordinary social background under the free education banner which offered some privileges and gained other opportunities set-back.
For me, personally, entering university education is a really a entering the universe. It played a significance role to our social upward mobility and career progression. Particularly for the females it’s driving force to be strong women who can serve our nation and to be courage and determined.
We all as children of a one family and I would like to express my gratitude towards your generosity which is so precious to us. Thank you for organising this lovely get-together. As a guest and a fellow colleague I have come from far away to see you after a very long time. I appreciate your warm welcome and I request from you to keep up this commitment to maintain our relationship onwards. My blessings with you all!
